February is a short month and this will be a short newsletter - but an important one!
I’m going to talk about your unseen companion who is like Jiminy Cricket on your shoulder continually pointing out what you should have done, could have done differently, faults in your appearance...and on and on.
Of course, if you are one of those amazing people (perhaps from another planet 🤔) who doesn’t have a critic in your head, then this newsletter will not be speaking to you. But, if you are one of the very normal people who are doing a great job in life, yet still hear the self-critic or judge in your head, then keep reading!

What does your Judge say to you?
It’s just past Valentine’s Day ❤️... that special day which is all about love for other, as well as self-love. But, is it?
Isn’t it time to stop judging ourselves and give ourselves a break? I think that’s long overdue.
Can be very harsh. Telling me I’m not doing enough- for my husband, family, my business and the environment- even the world!
Compares me to other more ‘successful’ solopreneurs - but doesn’t acknowledge the successes I’ve had.
Tells me I need to lose a few pounds, get my hair done, go to bed earlier.
All of these things can have some merit at different times, but the Judge isn’t known for his or her diplomatic or affirming language, and increased motivation rarely follows.
I wonder what your Judge says to you?
In his book Positive Intelligence®, Shirzad Chamine describes the Judge as being the universal saboteur - sadly, it’s one we all have. It’s a judge of self, of others and of circumstances. It pretends to be helpful and reasonable, but it’s anything but.
Recognizing this is the first step to dealing with it and shrinking its influence!
Building our Mental Fitness is the route to disarming and shrinking the influence of all our Saboteurs. You’d be amazed at how easy it is and how quickly you start accessing your Sage brain and the creativity and peace of mind that reside there. We don’t need to live in constant stress with Fight & Flight triggered so much of the time.
We all know what it’s like to build up our physical muscles - or at least we consider spending time in the gym 😃. If we do work on our physical fitness, we know that we have to do it in small steps. We can’t run a marathon without a long programme of training and the same thing applies to building up our mental fitness.
If we want to ‘fight’ our saboteurs we need to have a strong Sage mind. We gain this gradually. In the gym we’d lift small weights initially and gradually work up to heavier ones. With Mental Fitness we take a similar approach - small weights’ so we grow stronger and stronger.
If you’re tired of that critic in your head telling you you’re not doing ‘it’ well enough or commenting on how you look (or that you shouldn’t send out emails with mistakes in them 😦)....
If you’re tired of avoiding tasks that won’t go away and procrastinating creates stress....
If your perfectionism is making life difficult and getting in the way of completing jobs on time...
If you meet every goal yet find you can’t celebrate the achievement because you ‘need’ to accomplish more and more....
