“The price of your new life is your old one"

-Unknown

 Hello!

I heard the above quote from my branding coach, Finola Howard. I don't know where it originated, but It really hit home!!

Some of the immediate thoughts that arose for me were:

  • Oooh, I don’t like the sound of that!
  • There is a level of comfort in my ‘stuckness’ that I might miss.
  • It can’t mean letting go completely!
  • What if ‘it’ doesn’t work out?

By now you might have picked up that I share the same challenges as my clients! And we are not alone...

Here is a FaceBook post by Mel Robbins in relation to this same quote.
"I heard a quote the other day that stopped me in my tracks: 'the price of your new life is your old life.'
The cost of fulfilling your dreams is giving up the person you used to be— the one who is full of excuses as to why you can’t. You are the ONLY one who is responsible for your life. How exciting is that? All the power is in YOU. To know that you have the power to change your health, your marriage, your finances, your passions, your hobbies— is pretty incredible. And it all starts with one step.

You can change the habits that don’t serve you. You can create an evening routine that sets you up for success every day. You can raise happy and healthy kids in a great environment with your partner. It’s all up to you. The price of your new life is your old life. Starting today, be the person you want to be, and say goodbye to the one that’s full of excuses." Mel Robbins

In this newsletter I’ll explore how we can let go of what isn’t serving us to make room for what we want and deserve!

Are you with me in this? 2023 can and will be an easier, happier, more contented year should we choose it to be! There is much in life that we can’t control but we can control our thoughts and habits. Let’s give it a go!

Best wishes for a happy Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanzaa -- and a wonderful new year!

TIPS FOR "Letting Go"

An article in Psychology Today starts with this very apt quote and gives a few helpful tips for letting go!

"To let go does not mean to get rid of. To let go means to let be. When we let be with compassion, things come and go on their own.” –Jack Kornfield

1. Don’t live in chains when you have the key. We live with self-limiting beliefs that we let define who we are.

We tell ourselves, "I could never do that!" or "I could never make that happen!" If you truly believe that, you’ll never accomplish your goals. Open up your mind, and believe in yourself. There will be many people who tell you that you can’t do it. It’s up to you to prove them wrong.

2. Only worry about what you think of yourself.

Free yourself from being controlled by what other people think. Start to prioritize how you feel about yourself. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”  You can’t live by your values if you’re living for the approval of others.

3. Leave room for mistakes.

Did you make a mistake or say something stupid? It’s okay! Use the experience to learn and make a joke. It doesn’t make you stupid to say something wrong or silly: it makes you human, and sometimes even funny.

4. Accept the things you cannot change.

Stop wishing things could be the way they once were. Bring yourself into the present moment. This is where life happens. You can’t change the past; you can only make decisions today to help how your future turns out.

5. Don’t take yourself too seriously.

This will allow you to relax and enjoy life's journey. Laugh with yourself and even at yourself.

6. Do what scares you.

Fear holds us back from doing a lot of things because it closes our minds to possibilities for our future and locks us into our comfort zone. Fear fill us with doubt and “what ifs” imprison us. The more you do to get out of your comfort zone, the more fear will subside. In life, do what scares you, and you’ll grow and succeed.

MOVING FORWARD
(downloadable planning tool)

One thing I know to be true is that Self Care is essential for growth and well being and I see each of my clients begin to make the positive changes they want when they increase their level of self care.

To help make this happen for each of us, I’ve created a tool for you (and me) to really commit to beginning or continuing some positive daily routines. We can’t give what we don’t have and, sadly, burnout can be the end result of ignoring our own needs.

Your 2023 Self Care Planner - click here to download

1. Print out this simple one-page document to use a visual reminder.

2. Choose 3 things you will commit to doing for yourself each morning, afternoon and evening.

3. Record them on the planner and keep it somewhere to remind you of these commitments to yourself.

Some options to choose from are:

  • breathing / grounding exercise
  • meditation /  mindfulness
  • walking in nature
  • listening to music
  • dancing
  • reading / listening to podcast
  • gratitude practice ie write or say 3 things you are grateful for
  • journalling
  • drink water
  • eat healthy food

The Mountain Is You:
Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery

In her book, Brianna Wiest says:

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one.
It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction.
It’s going to cost you relationships and friends.
It’s going to cost you being liked and understood.
It doesn’t matter.
The people who are meant for you are going to meet you on the other side.
You’re going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward.
Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved.
Instead of
being understood, you’re going to be seen.
All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are.”
